“A place just for us,” are the words on the first page of the book, this grabs the attention of the reader because Jess and Leslie are searching for a place where they can escape from reality. When they find the place, they switch back and forth from Lark Creek to Terabithia where life is more exciting and they feel more at home. Eventually, the two worlds interlock, with a bridge, signifying the maturity. They learned to accept their lives as it is and still have hope that one day what they really wish for will come true if they believe and try hard enough. The stereotypical gender issues are what were real back in the 70’s, boys needed to be the fastest runner and girls couldn’t really have an imagination which is why they had to create a different world to escape where they could be themselves.
