A boy who was raised in a graveyard with the dead discovers there is a life outside the world he is used to. A girl changes his views and he begins to see everything differently as his family who are ghosts see he is changing as well. As they let him go and see what is truly out in the world to become a completely different boy.
The setting plays is very significant to this story because he rarely leaves the graveyard, if ever, except at the end of the book. The entire book he stays at the graveyard it’s his school and home, but soon he meets actual people who are more in tune with the current era and yearns to see what else there is in the world. The ghosts he communicates with on a daily basis have the language and accents of the years they passed away, giving a more realistic and unique feel. As he is a growing boy, he seeks adventure and something different, to live with the living. In the end he is able to experience for the first time what it is to have an actual name and be able to truly live outside the graveyard.
